Gift Baskets Beyond Christmas

General No Comments »

A quick perusal of the wide range of gift hampers available these days makes it plainly clear that these items have outgrown their Christmas roots. While they continue to be wildly popular during the holiday season, gift baskets are being used as viable options for an endless number of different occasions - and many times, just because.

Merry Christmas, Happy Birthday - or Just Because!

If you’ve ever given someone a gift basket before, there’s a very good chance that it was for Christmas. Back a few years ago, hampers were largely perceived as Christmas gift items and were often used as such. The initial popularity of gift hampers is definitely attributable to the holiday season; right off the bat, baskets full of chocolates and other treats were popularly handed out at Christmastime. Over time, though, many different varieties have been developed and gift baskets are suitable for any occasion now. Without a doubt, gift baskets have transformed from Christmas gifts to gifts for any occasion - and their popularity just keeps growing.

A Wider Assortment Means Greater Usefulness -

Without question, the fact that gift baskets used to boast chocolates and other delicious treats - and little else - was largely why they were reserved for the holiday season. Nowadays, though, gift baskets come in a stunning array of themes and configurations. In comparison to the traditional chocolate baskets, gift hampers today can be filled with anything from imported candy, novelty items, beautiful teas to local and imported wines. Creativity reigns supreme when it comes to gift basket design, which is a huge part of the reason why people are handing them out all year long these days.

Baskets For Every Occasion -

In addition to a wide array of delightful, customised choices, there are gift hampers today that are geared for just about every imaginable occasion. While Christmas hampers remain a hot commodity, birthday hampers, hampers for men and hampers for women are all hot sellers. There are baskets designed with expectant mums in mind, and options that boast a bevy of goods for newborn bubs as well. There’s no reason not to give a hamper as a going away present, a welcome back present - or "just because." No matter where the recipient’s tastes lie, hampers are unquestionably one of the most versatile and thoughtful gifts that you can give throughout the entire year.

Hamper Me (http://www.hamperme.com.au ) understand that today, gift baskets aren’t appropriate just around Christmastime - they are well suited for virtually any occasion imaginable. Christmas hampers continue to be huge hits and are quite popular, but hampers in a wide array of themes and designs are given out all year round. Regardless of the occasion, there’s bound to be a great basket out there.

The "Packing 411" Gives Holiday Shoppers the Upper Hand on Sending Gifts

General No Comments »

When it comes to handling gifts, Santa has the advantage over everyone, but with a little preparation and know-how, consumers still have some tricks up their own sleeves. It may not include a flying sleigh or eight reindeer, but there’s no need to panic when it comes to shipping and receiving holiday packages.

"We’ve seen some wild packages come through the door over the years," said Audrey Jones, The UPS Store franchisee. "All that work to find the perfect gift can be wasted if the package isn’t properly prepared for shipping."

To ensure packages are delivered in perfect condition, she suggests using a new box specifically designed for shipping, instead of moving boxes. The old boxes in the basement left over from the last move or catalog order are not the best choices. Also, choose packing materials that provide bubble cushioning. Old clothes and newspapers don’t offer the right amount of protection for that "perfect gift." For perishable foods, place foods in an airtight container or plastic bag before placing them in a gift box. Fill gapes in the container with squares of bubble cushioning to soften the vibration.

Before closing the box, place an extra mailing label inside, just in case the outside label is damaged. Seal the outside of the box with clear, professional-grade packaging tape. Duct tape, making tape and cellophane tape, as well as packages wrapped in paper or tied with string are no-no’s. The proper shipping supplies are available at local shipping companies such as UPS.

For those who are seeking a more "green" alternative to standard shipping, companies such as the UPS Store are introducing earth-friendly packaging that eliminates the need for bubble cushioning and packaging peanuts for many items. Biodegradable peanuts are also being produced and are available at select UPS stores. Still, customers can be earth-friendly with the use of recycled boxes for their shipping supplies.. And even though those packing peanuts are not a favorite "green" item, it’s a great idea to reuse them in packages rather than throwing them away. Overall, customers who choose carefully just in the size of the box they send, rather than grabbing whatever seems easiest, will help to reduce the use of fuel during delivery, which can have a great impact on the environment.

For do-it-yourselfers, Internet shipping options enable customers to indicate their service preferences, pay by credit card, print shipping labels and track packages. Once the label has been placed on the package, customers can choose to drop their package off at the local shipping company, arrange for a pick up, or drop off at a UPS drop box.

With only 21 days between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, the week before Christmas week is expected to be the busiest shipping week. Since Monday is usually the busiest shipping day of the week, consider mailing packages Tuesday through Saturday. Customers should plan on five days for most ground shipping and make sure to consult their shipping company to determine the best dates for on-time delivery when shipping internationally or to military personnel. Most of these shipping businesses also offer extended holiday hours for customers’ convenience.

UPS’s mail rooms will be bursting as they expect to deliver 5.6 million air packages on Friday, December 21 - more than two-and-a-half times the normal daily volume. It is also geared up to handle more than 150 million online package tracking requests during the week of December 19. To handle this immense volume, the company serves as one of the holiday season’s top employers, adding roughly 60,000 seasonal employees. Its ground fleet of more than 94,000 package cars, vans, and tractors has expanded by approximately 7,000 vehicles. For procrastinators, UPS accepts Next Day Air packages on Friday, Dec. 21 for delivery on Monday, Dec. 24, just in time for the big day.

Seasons Greetings Pop Pickers! Here’s the Top 10 in Fun Christmas Gifts

General No Comments »

Christmas is a time of celebration a time for families, a time for friends and, most importantly, a time for fun. Perhaps it’s the holidays from work, or even the thought of opening up all those Christmas gifts that somehow brings out the child in us, and the older we get, it would seem, the more immature we can become.

For those of you who can still remember the anticipation of waiting for Santa Clause on Christmas Eve, and the fun of tearing off the wrapping paper on those Christmas gifts on Christmas morning, then you might believe that Christmas no longer has that same level of excitement, and if this is the case, then you’re simply not trying hard enough! With a little bit of careful thought and consideration to what you buy your friends and family, it is possible to recreate that feeling of Christmas joy with some fabulous Christmas gifts.

The trick to buying good Christmas gifts for people is to really get an understanding of what they like, what they don’t like, what they’re good at, and what they’re hopeless at.

If your partner has a passion for something other than yourself, or if your parents are partial to a particular past time, then why not indulge them and look for those Christmas Gifts that will have a practical use as well as making them smile. If you know someone who enjoys cooking for example, then why not treat them to their own herb garden gift box this Christmas? Ideal for the kitchen window sill or garden pot, these Christmas gifts are great for those budding gardeners too. Or what about a Mini Putting Practice gift for those golfing enthusiasts?

Sometimes Christmas can be a great excuse to have a little bit of fun with those people in our lives who perhaps need reminding of a little bad habit such as struggling to wake up quickly in the mornings. The ‘Clocky Clock Alarm Clock’ is a great Christmas gift for those reluctant teenagers, particularly for Christmas morning, and it runs away from sleepy people to ensure that they are more than wide awake when they go to switch it off. Or what about those members of the family who are a little bit accident prone? There is a wide selection of designer Plasters such as the ‘Art School Collection’ or the ‘Crime Scene Bandages’, which can make great stocking fillers for any member of the family.

Sometimes buying Christmas gifts for people can be a great excuse just to be naughty and for those who are less sentimental about the religious connotations of Christmas, (or who want to buy a cheeky gift for those who are!) then Christmas gifts don’t get much cheekier than ‘The Good Book flask in a book’: a hip flask secretly hidden inside a bible.

Christmas can be a great time of year to come across those everyday items that may at first glance look peculiar, but once you have them you wonder how you ever managed without them. These Christmas gifts can be ideal stocking fillers, or simply just fun presents for the whole family to enjoy. Try out the Robocup Egg Cup and you’ll understand.

No matter how well you know someone, occasionally there are just those moments when you a draw a blank when it comes to thinking of what Christmas gifts they might want or need. What do you get for the person who has it all? If you’re lucky enough to be best friends with a millionaire for example, then how do you ensure that you get them something that they will remember? The simple answer is to buy them nothing literally. Believe it or not, it’s finally here the Christmas gift of ‘Nothing’ in the form of a small ball that doesyou guessed itnothing at all. The Three Wise Men might have had something to say about this, but at least Santa won’t have to carry very much.

If it’s the thrill of opening up the presents that excites you most about Christmas then what do you do later on the day when everything has been unwrapped and the Christmas dinner has become a messy pile of washing up? Make sure that the fun keeps on going with a series of party games that everyone can join in with. Remember not to take this too seriously however with all the drink around and spirits high it might be easy to find things getting a bit heated, but with the right person in control, a series of challenges and games can bring everyone together. Try the Christmas Game Tin for a bit of variety, or maybe even design your own Monopoly game to make sure there are no fights about who gets Mayfair and Park Lane. Both make for real fun and original Christmas gifts for your loved ones.

How To Choose Safe Toys For Your Child’s Christmas Gifts This Season

General No Comments »

Gifts are some of the reasons we look forward to these holidays. The joy of getting a thoughtful gift from a dear one is always great. It can only be equaled by that of seeing your gift was right and gave your beloved ones a reason to be happy. Striving to ensure you get the right gift is actually a tough process. It is more so when you shop for your kid’s gift. You want something they’ll love. However, you also want something that will be safe for them to use even in your absence.

There are certain "no-go" areas as far as children’s toys are concerned. There are considerations to make for each age bracket. For example, Children under 3 years are very likely to put small bits into their mouths. So if you want to buy them Lego type of toys you must ensure they many times bigger than any baby’s mouth can handle. Because anything that goes into a baby’s mouth is likely to be swallowed. And you don’t want emergencies in the future all because you bought your kid some toys.

Another consideration is the design and finish of the toys. Toys with sharp edges are generally not good for children. Yes, some may look very attractive but you do know enough to avoid them.

Please, do not buy toys that have labels showing an age that is above your child’s. A lot of folks like taking pride in the fact that their kids are a few years smarter than their ages. This is not a good occasion to show that pride. This is especially true if the toy in question has to be plugged into the mains or if they have heating elements. I personally prefer toys that use batteries and generally avoid toys with heating elements.

Polythene wrappers have been known to suffocate toddlers. So, please, make sure you throw them far away from their reach.

Take some time out to read the instructions. Make sure they are approved by the proper government agency. Those folks know a lot about these things and are charged to make sure companies comply with certain rules. They often recall some toys based on user’s feedback. Avoid any toy that has been recalled.

Check the toys you’ve already bought from time to time to ensure they’ve not been recalled. If any is recalled, be decisive enough to destroy it even if it is your child’s favorite. There will be pleas and protests but you should know how to explain to your child that you’ve just discovered it is unsafe for him or her. Put your foot down. You know what’s at stake here.

And a point to note is that recalls are not only made for products from small unknown companies. The biggest and the best have had some of their toys recalled. It’s just a matter of folks discovering something unsafe no one thought of previously.

Make sure every toy package is well disposed especially if you have kids in different age brackets. What may not be a hazard for a 10 year old might be for a 3 year old. Keep the holidays happy. Ensure your kids play safely and in safety.

Christmas Gifts for Quilters

General No Comments »

If you have a quilter on your holiday gift giving list this year, consider yourself lucky. Christmas gifts for quilters are abundant and fit in any budget.

Give a gift card or certificate to the quilter’s favorite craft, hobby, or fabric store. Your quilter friend can use the gift for whatever he or she needs, whether its thread, other quilting supplies or fabric.

For those who believe giving a gift card is taking the easy way out, there are plenty of other Christmas gifts for quilters.

How about a nice pair of scissors? Good scissors are a tool that every quilter needs. When you shop for scissors as your Christmas gift for the quilter on your list, you will see just how many kinds of scissors there are on the market. Take time to read the packaging carefully. You wouldn’t want to give your quilter a pair of embroidery thread snips instead of a sturdy pair of fabric cutting scissors!

Quilting books and magazines make great Christmas gifts for quilters. It does not matter how many your quilting friend already has, books and magazines that show new techniques or trends are always a welcomed gift. Quilters often find inspiration for new color choices, quilting patterns and project ideas in books and magazines.

Give the gift of an Internet quilting club membership. Many online quilting clubs give their subscribers great quilting tips and offer one-on-one assistance for members who email them questions. Some websites even feature regular interviews with quilting pros or offer video streams which show demonstrations of various quilting techniques!

Make a quilt yourself. Even if you’re not a quilter, making a quilt (or quilted wall hanging, throw, or even a potholder) will show your quilting friend that you recognize his or her love for quilting. Use your imagination and see what you can quilt. If you’re not a quilter, give yourself plenty of time for your first quilting project.

Give the gift of a quilted look in accessories for the home or office. If you’re crafty in other ways but just have never thought of yourself as a quilter, there are plenty of unique Christmas gifts for quilters you can make. For instance, decoupage a picture frame to look like a quilt. Or, cover a frame, desk calendar and inexpensive business card holder in coordinating fabrics. A fabric printed or woven with a quilt pattern would be an extra nice touch!

Give a quilter’s gift basket. Search for a nice basket that will match your friend’s décor. Include several quilting products in it. Good choices are various strengths of quilting thread, a rotary cutter and cutting surface, scissors, scraps or fabric remnants, and quilting needles (if your friend quilts by hand; machine needles if your friend quilts by machine). Don’t forget to add a copy of your favorite quilt pattern or a book full of patterns! If you’re giving the gift of a quilting web club membership, it would be nice to "wrap" your gift in a small gift basket.

If your quilting friend likes to craft with vintage fabrics, take a trip to your area thrift store to pick up a few samples. Keep an open mind. When shopping in thrift stores, you’ll rarely run across a bolt of fabric. Your vintage fabrics may be recycled old ties, old blouses, old socks or old t-shirts!

Any of these gifts would be appreciated and enjoyed by the quilter on your holiday gift giving list. Wrap them in fabric or tie a nice fabric bow on top of whichever gift you decide to give for a great finishing touch!

Unique Christmas Holiday Gifts That Are One-Of-A-Kind

General No Comments »

If you have ever experienced the disappointment of opening a Christmas present to find that it was very similar to something which you had already received from someone else, you know how frustrating it can feel. Even worse, you may have been in the position of giving such a gift to someone, and saw their sad expression when they opened the gift. The reason is that the lack of care in choosing a special gift results in the recipient himself feeling less than special. He considers the possibility that you did not put much thought into selecting something just for him.

Unique Christmas holiday gift ideas that are one-of-a-kind solves this problem. No matter how many people you are buying gifts for this year, each person who opens a package with his or her name etched or stamped into the item will instantly know that his gift is special, and so are they. When you put this attention into selecting unique Christmas gifts, they will be the most appreciated. Christmas holiday gifts are made truly unique by personalization, which turns an ordinary gift into something very unforgettable.

One of the nicest ways to make any Christmas gift extra-special is with the added touch of personalization. Whether you are giving a lovely picture frame for your recipient’s home, a practical gift for use in the office, a nice piece of jewelry, or a sweet little bank for a child, no matter how special the gift itself may already be, it will become even more so when it is custom-designed with the person’s own name or initials. The reason why everyone loves personalized gifts the best is while it also caters to their sense of individuality, it shows them how much you care. There is no better way to make any Christmas holiday gift truly unique.

In addition to personalized gifts, you can find unique Christmas holiday gifts that are one-of-a-kind when they are made. Depending upon the particular tastes and preferences of your recipient, there is a wide variety of possibilities. Your special person might like a one-of-a-kind art print. A painting or a pencil sketch which is custom-made from your photograph is a unique gift which no one but your special person will ever receive. Children love seeing there name in print, and a perfect place to have their names printed is on a wooden children’s themed room signs. A sign of their very own will delight some small child and make them very so very special. Their face will light up and you will know that you put that smile on their face. These gifts are as beautiful as they are unique. They will be thrilled to see what is in the package when they open it, and delighted to put it on display where everyone can see it.

If you think about it, there is nearly no limit to unique Christmas holiday gift ideas. When you choose a gift which reflects each person’s own sense of style, it is the one gift he will most love to receive.

Phone Cards Make Great Christmas Gifts

General No Comments »

Looking for the best gift for everyone on your list? Try prepaid phone cards. They’re the number one way to save on long distance or international calls, and practically everybody can use them. Frequent travelers, busy businessmen and college students alike can all benefit from using phone cards, and you will get many thanks for giving them something they can actually use for Christmas (unlike those fuzzy pink bunny slippers Aunt Edna made for everyone).

Frequent Travelers

There’s no need to pay high rates at hotels for making domestic and international calls when you have a phone card. Anywhere you travel you can save money on long distance calls by using a prepaid phone card. Even if you’re just going on a short trip it seems there’s always some reason to call home - maybe you left the iron on, or you want to check in with your pet sitter. By getting your favorite jetsetter a phone card for Christmas you are doing them a huge favor by cutting down on their phone bills while they’re on vacation.

Busy Businessmen

If you know someone who travels on a regular basis for their business or company you already know that the stipends they receive while traveling are quite tight. Many times they are not reimbursed for personal calls they make while on their business trips, and all the calls can really add up. By giving your beloved executive a calling card for Christmas who knows how much money you’ll be saving them? You most likely will be saving them time too, as most phone cards work from any phone, so they don’t have to search all over looking for a pay phone.

College Students

Calling cards work from dorms too, and are a great way for parents to ensure their children can call them while they are away at school. Believe it or not, not all college students have cell phones, and even those who do can save on minutes and charges by using a calling card.

Already Done with Your Shopping?

If you’ve already bought all your gifts for everybody this year, you could always buy calling cards and use them as stocking stuffers, or skip the fruitcake this year (nobody eats those anyway) and tip your mailman, paper boy, hair dresser or favorite barista with a calling card.

If you want to make a charitable donation at this special time of year, many organizations collect phone cards and send them overseas for soldiers to use. Donating calling cards is a great way to show your support for the troops, and it gives them the chance to check in with friends and family and ensure everything is okay at home while they are away.

Phone cards have a wide number of uses, and their incredible ease of use make them perfect for everyone on your gift list. Check out all the great prepaid phone cards and international calling cards available on the market today, and get ready to hear many thanks this holiday season!

Shopping For Easter Holiday Gifts

General No Comments »

Easter is one of the holidays that parents and children alike get to enjoy in their own special way. The parents enjoy staying up all night stuffing their children’s Easter baskets with candy and other goodies. They also enjoy putting teddy bears in the girl’s baskets, and race cars or water guns in the baskets for the boys. Easter gives parents the opportunity to spread good cheer and get a good feeling over the marvelous creation that is lying at their feet.

Parents also love the adventure that shopping for Easter gifts provides. They have fun roaming through the aisles and seeing the very decorative ways that they can create the perfect Easter basket for each child at home. When it is finished and the kids are asleep, the parents adventure with Easter begins again when they try to find a hiding place for the Easter basket until Easter morning.’

Some parents will choose to make the Easter holidays very special. They start a tradition when their child is young and every year, when the child wakes up on Easter morning, they will see a Easter basket at the foot of their bed with a note from the Easter bunny reminding them to be good and to remind the child that they are loved by many people in the world. That will give the children a very good feeling that they can carry with them for many days in the coming year.

Some kids get so excited about Easter that they wake up their parents up with yells and screams that let them know that the Easter bunny arrived on schedule as planned. The children will typically want to put their bunny outfits on that have hung in their closet waiting for Easter morning. Parents might caution the children not to eat all the candy at once, and not to stash any of the Easter eggs that they cooked the night before.

The parents did not mind shopping for the Easter gifts at all. They think that their child deserves a little magic in their lives every once in a while and Easter is just the sort of holiday that will provide that for them. The children can take comfort in soft bunnies and enjoy the candy with all of their friends and one day when they are old enough to understand the true meaning of Easter, the parents are sure to take enough time to explain it to them so that they understand the significance of the marvelous event.

The Christmas Gifts for My Parents

General No Comments »
Relaxing middle aged couple, KeyWest 2003

Christmas Day is my favorite festival. Though I am not a child any longer, I still respect Christmas Day every year. Now I have been a wife and a mother of a five-year-old boy. I live a happy life.

This year Christmas Day is coming again. My son kept asking me when Christmas Day will come. He said that he wanted to talk with Father Christmas so he would appreciate his presents. I was very happy to see that my son had grown up and become a kind boy.

When I saw my little son, I remembered my childhood. At that time, I was childish as my son. I thought that Father Christmas was a kind man who was good at magic. Father Christmas would come to my room and put the present I wanted into my stockings on Christmas Eve. When I heard that there was not a Father Christmas in the world, I cried sorrowfully. In fact, our parent was our real Father Christmas. Thanks to my parents, I became a good person who could contribute to society and live a happy life. On Christmas Day, I should be my parents’ Father Christmas now. I would give my parents something special as their Christmas gifts.

What presents should I give my parents as their Christmas gifts? I had thought about the question for a long time. In the beginning, I wanted to buy sweaters for them. However, I was afraid that they disliked what I would choose for them. Then I wanted to buy them warm shoes but their shoes were too many. At last, I decided to buy them couple rings of Links of London. I hoped that they could enjoy their own life as young couples. Though they were old but it was never too late for romance. Links of London jewelry was not too luxurious but its design was very attractive. The Links of London rings I chose for them were simple but unique. The rings would give them a big surprise, I was sure.

In the future, I will be Father Christmas of my parents for ever.
