When it comes to gifting we all think a lot. Because a gift is not just a formality, it is an expression of our love.

It also says who we are. It shows how much we care for the other person.

That’s why it doesn’t matter if your gift is costly or something inexpensive.

What really matters is how much care you have packed in with the gift.

Let me give you an example:

After graduation many of my friends were leaving town. Emotions were running high and everyone was gifting each other.

I didn’t have lots of money. In fact I used to support my studies by teaching school kids.

So I decided to create a gift of my own.

I did a quick audit of what my friends like, their hobbies, the kind of career they want to get into and their role models.

Then I bought old magazines from the pavement, tore off the pages and then rearranged them.

With those old magazines I created new magazines which were created especially for every single friend of mine.

It had the articles they loved. And their own photographs. This magazine became the best gift that they got. Many of them have that magazine even today after all these years.

Here are some tips and ideas about how you can create gifts at almost no cost and yet make them memorable for your loved ones and friends:

- Make a compilation of inspiring quotations and gift it.You can also make posters of these quotations.

These posters can be customised with photographs of your friends and loved ones. They will proudly put it on the wall and your gift will remain and remind them for a long time.

- Compile a chicken soup kind of compilation especially for them and gift it.You know what kind of time your friends are going through. So you can customise it well for them. Also add your comment and it will become even more valuable.

- You know their favourite singers and artists. Why don’t you make a special CD pack for them?

This will contain all their favourite songs in one place. Use a free audio editor and also put your message in between.Don’t forget to pack it with the nice photographs of the artist. If you know little bit of Photoshop or can work on some other photo editor put your friend along with the artist on the pack and they will love you.

- Get a lot of self development audios together and create a course.

Gift it to your friends. May be your husband. It will be very valuable to them,I am sure.

- Take a high quality digital print of a great painting and frame it.

It is cherished by people. You will be referred more often in their talks.

- Make a personalised kitchen jar or a coffee mug.

Take a nice mug and print or write a nice message for your mom.I am not talking about the regular “greatest mom in the world” message. Write your heart out. Something unique for her.

- Gift them your time.

Print a cheque form from the net and instead of amount write the number of hours you are giving them. Offer to work for certain hours for the cause they are passionate about. This will be a unique gift for them.

- Throw a group movie show for your kids and their friends. You can also do this at home.

A great movie on the home theatre with friends and sandwiches makes a great occasion.

By now you know what I am hinting at.

The personalisation is the key. Make your gift unique by putting in it things which can’t be purchased in the market place.

And that’s what makes your gift invaluable!

Choosing Great Christmas Gifts For Girls

My gift of LOvE for You, my Dearest..
Image by Thai Jasmine via Flickr

When you’re trying to choose a Christmas gift for your girlfriend you might be thinking that the most important thing is to find something that she’s missing in her life. However, what you should really think about is why she doesn’t own the perfect gift you’re thinking of, the chances are that if she doesn’t have it, she doesn’t want it.

The rules are slightly different when it comes to basic desirables such as mobile phones, mp3 players and laptops, but one you’re kitted out with these things they tend not to need replacing for a while and that’s why they can’t be relied on for simple gift buying. Don’t fall into the trap of trying to come up with something original and placing more importance on newness over whether it actually suits the recipient. Instead, you should take inspiration from the things she does have - especially when it comes to clothes and jewellery.

A woman’s wardrobe is sure to reflect her tastes in the most comprehensive way. Unlike a home which may be decorated to landlord’s taste or designed with the family and functionality in mind, your clothes are chosen for you and you alone. This means that most of the clothing owned by your girlfriend is sure to have been at least chosen by her if not actually paid for. This means that a gift that encapsulates the various colours and textures of her clothing collection is pretty certain to hit the mark.

The best way to work out what patterns you’re seeing in her wardrobe is to steal a little time alone with her collection. Lay a selection out on her bed and look for a couple of key things such as the types of colours, is she into earthy tones and muted colours or is she a bright and bubbly dresser? Does she have a lot of clothes in black? Are all of her skirts long and all of her jeans skinny? If she has lots of clothes that look similar, you can sure it’s for a reason.

Once you have an idea of the shapes and colours she likes (as well as her size of course) hit the high street and try and keep them in mind as you wander the shops. A handy hint is to take a couple of photographs of her with you. That way, when you’re looking at an array of womens clothes, you’ll find it easier to picture her in them and check you’re looking at the right kind of colours.

When you do finally choose your gift it’s a good idea to keep the receipt though, even when you find the ideal item there’s still always the chance she’ll need it in a slightly different size.

Of course, when it comes to Christmas Gifts for Girls, there are many opportunities and not just the obvious items, like Dolls, that are desired by the young girls. For instance, there are many books and book series that appeal to girls, puzzles, word games, diaries and lots more.

Christmas Gifts for Guys has many options that go past men’s shoes and shirts. Men and older boys tend to be fascinated by gadgets and there is an endless variety. Think GPS navigation systems, wrist watches that have special functions, such as measure heart beat, video game consoles, emergency road repair kits and household goods, like barbecues and outdoor grills.

There are also many toys, games and educational systems that are much loved by kids. The classic is no doubt the video game and electrical learning systems. However, don’t forget traditional items like bicycles and toy fire engines, as well as long popular games like Scrabble and Monopoly.

Cool Christmas Gifts are probably the province of the teenager, both boys and girls. Although both will appreciate DVDs, you naturally have to consider that “Twilight” - the book as well as the movie - will more likely cause the hearts of teenage girls to flutter, whereas action movies - such as the Terminator, Iron Man, Transformer and similar will raise the adrenalin in young guys.

There is also a group that finds lots of appeal in Creative Christmas Gifts. These can vary from simple diaries and journals to the modern electrical version. Also, items are available which allow girls to design fashion, explore makeup and hair options, combine fragrances, and lots more. Guys with creative instincts often get a lot of fun out of electronics sets which provide many useful components that can be assembled into useful objects.

However, there is much more to be obtained from the detail, so have a closer look at what has been described on these pages:

Offer The Most Interesting Christmas Gifts

Christmas Gift
Image by Geoff LMV via Flickr

Christmas is a beautiful holiday for everybody, especially because to adults it remembers of childhood. Winter holidays are also one of the most popular periods when it comes to giving gifts. Many people get to buy gifts for the ones they love with some time before the holidays. However, some do not think about that in time and end up by purchasing uninspired Christmas presents.

If you want to show others that you really care about them by giving them a special and unique gift then you should spend some time with searching for the right things to offer. The gifts you offer on Christmas are not necessarily supposed to be expensive things. This is the reason why you should use your imagination and creativity in order to come up with the perfect choices.

A great idea for a gift in general and a Christmas gift in particular is to customize the present. The internet can be your best friend in this situation as you can find out about plenty of possibilities. All the suggestions, such as customizing shirts or even underwear, will help with some limitations. This means that you can transform the ideas from the internet into a great gift if you think about the person who will receive the gift and you will adapt the ideas to that. You can also greatly improve a gift if you get to wrap it the right way.

A beautiful thing to offer on Christmas would be a ticket to the concert of that person’s favorite band or tickets to a sport event she or he was waiting for a long time. It is true that this is not a gift that will remain after many years but the memories will make that person to think about you with a nice feeling. It is always better for sure for anyone to spend some quality time at such an event than to receive another boring gift from your friend. Also, if the ticket is far too expensive, you can always talk with some common friends to gather the money together and offer a group gift. When it comes to a group gift you can also choose to offer to pay a trip for that person. Anyone will simply be amazed with how much friends care about he or she.

A fun and wonderful gift for Christmas would be a pet. People usually love animals so almost anyone will find this an appropriate gift, especially when it comes to children. While a bunny is the perfect pet for Easter, a bird, a puppy or a kitty will be great on Christmas. Imagine how happy your child would be seeing the little animal in his arms instead of another toy as he or she usually receives on Christmas.

You can also choose to offer gifts which were created by you instead of being bought or offer a piece of art. The most important thing is for you to love making gifts and to spend enough time with that and you will end up by offering the best presents to the ones you love.

wisheo.com - Group Gift Management is a new group gift buying website that allows users to manage the entire group gift buying process from setting up a wishlist and inviting friends to collecting contributions.

Easy Outdoor Christmas Decorations Ideas

General No Comments »
sachi describing martha stewart's balls to rac...
Image by sean dreilinger via Flickr

Christmas holidays offer people a time to share joy both inside the home and out. Sometimes we forget how fun it is to look at Christmas decorations. Being able to share this joy with others is a wonderful experience. Yet often Christmas decorations can take both time and money. Here are some very affordable ways to share this seasons spirit and stay within your budget.

As those holidays quickly approach many people can feel the levels of stress begin to rise.. Preparing for the arrival of family and other out of town guests can take a toll on you. With so much to worry about, your Christmas decorations shouldn’t be one of them. There are several cost efficient ways to decorate the exterior of your home without spending a bundle.

Ask yourself this question. What will be my theme? If you chose a traditional theme there may be items around your house for you to use. Items such as ribbon, scissors, tape, garland, and other materials are usually scattered about in drawers, closets and cabinets.

Try to use nature to help you decorate whenever possible. You can find holly berries, pine cones, branches and mistletoe almost everywhere. These items are free, earth friendly and they are so much fun to work with.

* Make your own evergreen trim; this requires a little bit of patience and practice. It will still beat paying $20 or more to purchase a living garland from the store. Just consider yourself to be the “Martha Stewart of the Forest”.

Other items that you may need for your Christmas decorating projects can be found at your local dollar store. You can also check out discounters and garage sales for necessities such as construction paper, artificial flowers, glue, lights, wreaths, bows, markers, colored pencils, paint, paper plates, glue sticks, Christmas bulbs, glitter, and all sizes of Styrofoam balls.

Make decorating fun. Create kid friendly holiday decorations that are colorful, inexpensive and enjoyable. Invite all your family members to participate in this kid-friendly project. Here are some easy to make crafts the whole family can enjoy doing.

* Make some life size ornament cutouts from posterboard and use them to decorate your door or porch. You can trim these cutouts with material from the craft store.

* Decorating trees and bushes with bows is colorful and affordable. Having all bows be the same color is recommended. It gives the yard a more “pulled together” appearance.

* Create some ornaments with ribbon and pine cones to hang on tree branches. If you add peanut butter and bird seed to the pine cones the birds will appreciate it.

* You can make your own luminaries at home. All you need for ice luminaries are some empty quart size milk containers or some large buckets. You can even make Christmas luminaries from some plain tin cans.

Tin Can Luminaries

1. Use clean tin cans of different sizes for this project. Make sure the cut top is smooth and safe. Remove the labels from the cans and fill them with water.

2. Place them in the freezer. The frozen water in the cans will prevent them from denting or collapsing as you create Christmas designs on their surfaces.

3. When the water is frozen you can make designs on the tin cans with a hole punch, or use a hammer and nails.

4. Be creative with your design and make sure the light will be able to shine through.

5. Remove the ice, place votive candles inside the cans and decorate your front walk, yard or porch.

Here is another idea that can be used to decorate the exterior of your home for Christmas.

Decorative Door Greeting

Items needed:

Garland in the following colors: green, silver, gold, red

Ribbon (red, green, silver, gold)

Tape (or thumb tacks)

Scissors

Fun and festive wrapping paper (Christmas themed)

Construction paper

Color pencils (or markers)

Glitter

Trim a piece of colorful wrapping paper so that it will fit the length of your front door.

Use tape or thumb tacks to hold the wrapping paper in place.

Next you will need to cut two pieces of red and silver garland the width of the door.

Twist the garland together.

Cut ¾ inch green ribbon and tie the ends of the garland.

Cut two pieces of green and gold garland together. Cut ¾ inch silver ribbon and tie both ends of the garland.

Use a hook, thumb tacks or a small nail to mount the garland on your door.

Cut four pieces of garland, (your choice of colors) the height of the door.

Twist the first two pieces of the garland together.

Now you can twist the next two pieces of garland together.

Use thumb tacks to secure the garland in place on the door.

Making a Greeting Card for the Door

Fold the construction paper in half.

* Write a holiday greeting to people coming to your door on this card. Brightly colored markers or pencils work well for this.

* Using a brightly colored pen or a glitter pen to trace your greeting adds nice touch.

* Once you have finished the card, place it at the center of the door.

* For a different style, cover your door with cards. The cards can all be filled in - or you can include a pen so people can add their own message.

Learning how to decorate the exterior of your home for Christmas does not mean that you have to spend a lot of money. This should be a fun project that lets you add your personal style statement to the season’s festivities.

Where Did it All Start and Why Do We Do Christmas Gifts?

General No Comments »
Santa Claus is coming to town

Christmas is, for many people, their favourite time of the year. Taking away the fact it is a time of rampant Christmas gift giving and stress, it is also the time of year when families most often come together and see each other. For others, it is the joyous occasion of celebrating Christ’s birth, and as Christmas has been overtaken by the commercial side of the season, this religious basis for the celebration is often overlooked. However, many people wonder about the origins of Christmas, and especially how the tradition of Christmas gift giving came about in particular!

The celebration of Christmas has its roots in ancient winter festivals. At this time, Christianity was trying to get people to convert and realised that people would be more likely to if they did not have to lose their beloved winter festivals.

The winter solstice was also celebrated, and the Sol Invictus festival lays claim to cementing the 25th of December as Christmas Day, as there is no definitive birth-date of Jesus in the Bible. Pagan Scandinavia used to celebrate a festival called Yule, where there would be carousing until the Yule log burned out, which usually took twelve days. Pagan Germania’s equivalent was the mid-winter night, which also used to last around twelve days.

In the Middle Ages, Christmas consisted of bouts of drinking, feasting and caroling. Puritans at the time disliked this carousing, that was ostensibly in Christ’s name, and self-styled Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell cancelled Christmas in 1645 due to these reasons. In England, Christmas gifts were traditionally exchanged on New Year’s Day in this period.

Pretty soon Christmas was a widespread feast, although after the US revolution it was considered a very British thing to do and as such fell out of favour in America. This soon changed however into the 1800s with Washington Irving’s short stories reviving American interest in Christmas. Back in England, Dickens’ A Christmas Carol worked to popularize and reframe Christmas as a time of family togetherness. By the late 19th century, Christmas had assumed the traditional form it has today, and in 1870 President Ulysses Grant officially declared Christmas a federal holiday in America. In Great Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand however, the 26th of December, as Boxing Day, also became a holiday. This day became a rest day for servants and other house staff that may have had to work on Christmas Day.

The most iconic association with Christmas is of course Santa Claus, also variously known as Father Christmas, Saint Nicholas, Sinterklaas and Pere Noel. His image was created by cartoonist Thomas Nast in 1863, and was standardised by advertising in the 1920s. The myth of Santa Claus possibly comes from stories of Saint Nicholas, though in Britain the image was popularly thought from the 15th century to symbolise drunkenness and merriment. Santa is now thought of as the man who brings Gifts at Christmas, though in South America the legend goes that he makes toys for the baby Jesus to deliver.

The notion of Christmas gift giving is one of the main questions here and it has a very straightforward answer. The giving of Christmas gifts has its roots in the magi, or wise men, bringing gifts to Jesus. In fact, some Eastern Orthodox Churches and European countries still celebrate the traditional date of the Magi’s arrival, January 6th, with something like a Christmas gift exchange. In history, the Romans traded gifts as part of their Saturnalia festival, and in the 13th century French nuns gave presents to the poor on St Nicholas’ Eve. However, Christmas gift giving as we know it today did not really come about until the late 18th century. In short, the giving of Christmas gifts was meant to remind people of the magi’s gifts to the baby Jesus, and by extension God’s gift of Christ to humankind. As we all know, nowadays the more social aspect of Christmas gift giving has taken over, as a means of showing affection to family and friends for instance, but the roots of the gift giving should always be remembered as a Christian religious tradition.

The commercial aspect of Christmas is now a gigantic economic operation, as Christmas gift giving is a major tradition. Many shops advertise longer hours to ensure those searching for last minute Christmas gifts are not disappointed. With the advent of the internet, the shopping aspect of Christmas gift giving has been further simplified, with the ease of selection and stress-free browsing major attractions. The greater choice of Christmas gifts online also makes this method of shopping more attractive. Another advantage is that personalised gifts are more widely available on the net than on the high street, and more creative presents such as spa weekends and flying experience are more easily booked online.

In short then, it is fair to say that Christmas gift giving has come a long way from its roots in the Epiphany to what it is today.

Why Wine Gift Baskets Are Always A Popular Choice For Christmas Gifts

General No Comments »
cabernet sauvignon wine

Don’t we all love receiving food as a gift? Who cares what the occasion is? We all love to get good food. Food is one of those meaningful presents that says so much more than when you receive just another useless object. Food represents comfort and the good things in life.

This holiday season, or for any reason, when you’re trying to figure out a good gift to give, you ought to look into wine gift baskets. For the wine connoisseur or the wine novice, these are a great way to tell someone you care and give them something interesting, different, and delicious.

A variety of wine gift baskets are available for your gift-giving pleasure. You can select a basket which features red wine. Such a basket can consist of just one type of red wine like merlot or red zinfandel, for example. You can find quality baskets which will have a variety of merlots so the recipient can taste and compare different brands. You can also get a wine basket which contains a variety of wine styles. That way your friend can compare a merlot with a cabernet sauvignon. They are also available with white wines and blushes, too. Don’t know what type of wine to give? A good idea is to give them a basket which contains a chardonnay, a merlot, and a blush. Then you have all the bases covered.

Wine gift baskets come in a number of price points. There’s a basket to suit every budget. You can spend anywhere from around $30 to in excess of $200. Obviously this means there are a wealth of options from which to choose.

Wine gift baskets don’t have to be just wine, either. You can select one which includes complementary food items such as candies, fruits, and cheeses. Imagine their joy when they receive a lovely wicker basket containing a bottle of exquisite Californian sauvignon blanc, a bar of delicious Swiss chocolate, a box of fine British crackers, and a block of fresh Italian mozzarella cheese.

Wine gift baskets can be educational for the novice wine drinker and an exciting gift for the wine lover on your gift shopping list. One of the best things about them is their convenience. There a number of mail order companies which will be happy to send you a free catalog from which you can select your gifts and have them shipped to your friends and family. In addition to catalogs, there are plenty of online companies from which to choose. Often, a business will allow you to shop both online and through their catalog. Online ordering is safe and convenient and allows you to do more research on your gift items.

This holiday season, or any time you’re in search of a thoughtful gift, look into giving a wine gift basket. It’s certain they’ll love it.

Sine and some christmas gifts

Not everyone celebrates the Christmas Holiday, but for those that do, it is a very special time of the year. There is a lot of planning that goes into the decorations, gift giving, food, and traveling to see loved ones and friends. It can cost quite a chunk of change to accomplish all that you would like to in order to have a great Christmas holiday, so many of us have to find little ways to save as much money as we can.

There are some people that you want to give gifts to that you will spend more money for than others. Just because you might not be able to spend big bucks on every gift does not mean that it can not be something special that a person will like. What is more important than the amount you spend for a gift is whether or not that gift suits the person that you are buying it for. This is why you should take a little time to know for sure what the likes and dislikes are for each person on your gift list.

First of all, you should always have a list. You will need to place the people that absolutely can not be left out at the top. Then add others that you would like to buy for id your budget will allow it. If you already have certain gifts in mind for certain individuals, go ahead and put down the amount you will spend and try to take care of those items first. At least then you know you will already have the most important people and their gifts taken care of. Loved ones like your children, if you have them, parents,in laws, and others close to you usually not be left out.

When you get to those on the list that you are unsure what to give them, you can always stick to everyday items anyone can use such as food items, a coffee mug, or pen set. Caps are a good gift for those who wear them and they are inexpensive. Usually a kitchen towel set or two is great for any lady that is a home maker. Just use a little common sense. You will find that many times you will surprise people by giving them a gift at all when you are not that close and they will be appreciative no matter how much you spent. Chances are they are just like you and realize that when money is tight it is hard to spend a lot for each person. Gift giving at Christmas is supposed to be about the giving anyway, not how much you spent.
