That same poll, though, found that the digital music player wasn’t the only popular holiday gift in 2008. Diamond earrings, for instance, ranked second.

Earrings, and jewelry of all types, are also an appropriate Christmas present for a wife, fiance or other loved one. Diamond earrings are classics. They’ll never go out of style.

Third on the survey’s list was the ever popular video game console, another hot electronics item. These game systems are enormously popular largely because they boast a wide range of family-friendly video games.

The top of the line, in fact, has been a hit ever since it first appeared on store shelves back in December of 2006. Its unique way of putting gamers directly into the action has proven to be popular among gaming fans of all ages.

Another piece of classic jewelry earned the fourth place on the list: the Tiffany necklace. Again, this elegant piece of jewelry is the perfect gift for a spouse or girlfriend. Like a diamond earring, a Tiffany necklace will never go out of favor.

There were some surprises on the list of top Christmas presents. The Rubix Cube, for instance, made the list. It appears that the puzzling toy is making a bit of a comeback.

Also on the list were some fairly mundane items such as slippers, pajamas and underwear.
